The most powerful router I've ever used!
Product: Asus RT-AX88U AX6000 Wi-Fi 6 Router -------------------------------------------------------- October 19th, 2020 Purchased this router as my existing Asus RT-AX3000 Wi-Fi router wasn't giving me much range across two rooms. I've currently setup the AX88U as the primary router & the AX3000 as an AiMesh node. SETUP: Initial setup was smooth & quick, although had some issues while upgrading the firmware for the first time (GUI froze, but fixed after a hard reboot). I can also use my AX3000 configuration settings file on the AX88U, but I chose to configure from scratch just to avoid any issues. A hard reset is recommended after updating the firmware. WAN SPEED: I have an ACT Fibernet connection (Chennai), and even though my plan is only 200mbps, speedtests show me a higher rate (No idea why, nearly 400mbps!) Download speeds max out at 20 Mega Bytes/second (according to my plan). LAN SPEED: I have a WD MyCloud NAS attached and file copying speeds over wired ethernet max out at the HDD's file transfer speeds (check attached image). WIRELESS SIGNAL: The main reason I purchased this is for it's advertised usage in very large homes and it does not disappoint. The 5GHz range is pretty good, holding a solid 120+ mbps over two brick walls. The 2.4GHz travels even longer, albeit with slower speeds ranging around 15~30mbps across two brick walls or even through my ceiling to my terrace. AiMESH: The Asus AiMesh is a pretty nifty feature to have and creates one seamless interconnected network across all your devices. I'm not using any dedicated wired back-haul line, and the speeds are still consistent everywhere around my house. You can check what devices are connected to the main router vs the AiMesh node using the Asus Router app. The AiMesh node also supports wired LAN connection over wireless (like an access point). WiFi6: I have just one device that supports WiFi6 right now (Samsung Galaxy Note 10) but I'm upgrading all my devices in the future, hence I just wanted to future proof my network first. WPA3 is supported with a fallback to WPA2 for unsupported devices. The AX band has some really nice features that promotes faster speeds, beam-forming, MU-MIMO, OFDMA And Target Wake Time to save battery on supported devices. Overall, the router is pretty powerful if you're thinking of future-proofing your home/office network with WiFi6. Check out some of the screenshots attached for a better understanding of the product & it's features.

You go finding a router for your needs - and try to decide basis reviews..all you get is a massively confused state of mind once you have gone thru all the reviews. There is something negative being said about each router in the market, and makes you think - shud i custom build one! :) ...So among all this hyperbole, i ended up trying 3 routers before this, none of them asus, and none of them could match my range requirements. I had used Asus in US in the past, so i knew about the quality aspect of this brand. The cost was detrimental though. However, after the 3 didn't work out, took a plunge spending 6k+ for this beast. And boy, am i pleased. These guys rock!

      What works -

      1. The range is fantabulous - so much so that i get full speeds at 25 ft of distance behind 3 solid walls. And thats' what a router should do!

      2. The admin site has loads of features, most often that I have been using is the 'Bandwidth limiter'. It just makes it so easy for me to prioritise network traffic flowing to different devices, all of them ready to suck up the last megabit, but this beast holds them back as per my wish :)

      3. It doesn't have ac standard. How is that a pro? Well, the quad processor, 256 mb of ram and rest of the hardware ninjas work solely for 2.4 ghz N band, which is a good thing, and which is more than adequate uptill a 100 mbps connection. Trust me, I have used ac in the 3 doodles, and it is a useless band unless u have a device placed within 3 ft of the router. My 12 devices simultaneously leverage the N band, and the hardware works for them. Cool!

      4. This says it supports beamforming. Which is an amazing innovation in router world. I have tested it a bit, and i have noticed it provides stronger signals from where it gets the traffic requests. So the entire globe gets the strength argument is dust now. YOUR devices get the preference. Another cool!

      What doesn't work -

Not much to crib till now. Maybe if it was standing vertical like the AC68u, it would have looked cooler. But i can live with it :)

      Other thoughts -
I couldn't find many reviews for this router on amazon US site, nor on the net in general, except for Amazon India. So, probably this is an asian model or something. And so, you initially are hesitant whether i should pay close to 7k in India, which is already an overpriced market for routers (even in 2017!!). Price can correct a bit. But then the quality and stability you get with this thing, justifies the extra bucks. And since the reviews here helped me alot while deciding this router, I did my bit to share my thoughts. Hope this helps!

A real powerhouse for Wifi Networks for Home, SOHO or Mid Size Offices. It's simple to setup (almost plug and play) wifi networks with default settings. Advance users will also benefit by making changes to suite their tests.

      Pros:
-> Really Good Range (2.4GHz band can be accessed up to 200 ft without any wall in between. It can be accessed up to 100 ft with 4 concrete walls in between. 5GHz has small range.)
-> AiProtection - Inbuilt Protection to secure your network from malware and extruders.
      -> Really Good Network Throughput
-> Performs well for HD content transfer.
-> Dual WAN - Really useful to have back up internet just in case your primate internet is down. You can use the secondary internet using 3G Dongle without altering your wifi network setup.
-> Feature rich and easy to use web setup interface.
-> Guest Network on both 2.4 & 5 GHz bands.

      Cons:
-> Takes little longer to boot up after restart or power on.
      -> Somewhat costly.
-> Bonjour may not work properly (I cannot see my Bonjour enabled HP Printer from my Macbook.)
-> No way to limit internet bandwidth for the specific clients connected to the router.

I highly recommend it after my usage of about 1 Month. And Of course a blazing fast delivery (in 3 working days from date of order) by Amazon!

My home network manages traffic from:

      2 iPads
      1 iPhone
      1 android phone
      2 TV
      1 Nvidia Shield
      1 Amazon Alexa
      1 weather station monitoring display
      Numerous Hue lights
      1 USB 3 T network drive

I was replacing a decade old AirPort Extreme as Apple had discontinued support and I wanted more granular configurability. The replacing router arrived a day early and I spent the afternoon setting up to suit my needs.

Router configuration ( 10 years ago) was black magic, filled with frustrations and confusion. Not any more. ASUS has it dumbed down to a point if you can read and click, the basic configuration and connectivity is a 10 (or less) minute process. Once that is completed the fine tuning is next. I enabled the firewall and malware detection first. Malware protection is a huge plus and eliminates the need to run on individual devices.

After that I set various priorities. I made streaming video priority over other functions. I then enabled traffic monitoring so I could understand how much data was being used, by whom, what application etc. This revealed a disconcerting stat. The Nvidia Shield is transmitting over 125 megs of data each hour. This needs more research and I have narrowed it down to one of three apps I run. It will take a few days to eliminate the apps one by one.

Wi-Fi is a beast. I have excellent coverage in every room with signal strength of -38 dBm and 340 Mbs at most distant point.

Download speeds are consistently faster but that is subjective as my ISP may be having good days. I am paying for 25 Mbs download speeds and Analoti indicates I am getting between 20 and 50 most days.

Wi-Fi networks of 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz are separate networks. 5 is faster but is an ‘in room’ network as 5 is always a weaker signal. It is nice to have the choice.

I had intended to run the WRT-Merlin firmware but the OEM is so good I see no reason to change.

I can recommend this router to anyone looking for a good sold performing device.

5.0 out of 5 stars Ottimo acquisto!

5.0 out of 5 stars A good to have home router with advanced parental control and upgraded firewall

I received the latest version of this model AC1900P. The router's performance is pretty good. I was using AC51u and upgraded to this model. The features are really useful. The adaptive QoS and parental control has enhanced features when compared to other models that I had used in the past. The AI protection feature also looks nice for a home router.

The advanced processor and more memory helps in getting true HD streaming.

The hardware quality is very good and unit comes with a 2year warranty from Asus.
