TP-Link TL-R470T+ Load Balance Broadband Router

The TL-R470T+ load balance broadband router is a wise choice for small business. It brings you high return on investment with low overhead. Featuring three changeable WAN/LAN ports, TL-R470T+ supports up to 4 WAN ports, which can satisfy various Internet access requirements through one device. TL-R470T+ integrates multiple load balancing strategies, advanced QoS and strong firewall to provide you with consistent network uptime and reliable Ethernet connectivity. Moreover, it is easy to manage the TL-R470T+ via a web-based utility, which makes building and managing your network more convenient.

    Three Changeable WAN/LAN Ports

The TL-R470T+ features three changeable ports that can be set to either LAN or WAN, allowing the router to support up to four WAN ports to satisfy various Internet access requirements through one device. The router also has an integrated smart load balancing function which automatically selects the most efficient line according to load and bandwidth requirements, providing users with consistent network uptime and reliable Ethernet connectivity.

    Abundant Security Features:

For defense against external threats, TL-R470T+ can automatically detect and block Denial of service (DoS) attacks such as TCP/UDP/ICMP Flooding, Ping of Death and other related threats. Moreover, this router provides IP/MAC/URL/WEB filtering functions, which forcefully prevent attacks from intruders and viruses. For applications such as FTP, H.323, SIP, IPsec and PPTP which are not well compatible with NAT, TL-R470T+ offers administrators one-click enable of ALG choices corresponding to the above five applications.

    Efficient Access Management

By setting a PPPoE Server to allocate PPPoE accounts to private network users, the router only allows users with legal accounts that have passed authentication to access the Internet. Cooperating with IP-based Bandwidth Control, it is capable of confining bandwidth usage of certain PPPoE accounts. Moreover, the E-Bulletin function is able to release a bulletin in the form of webpage to certain user groups periodically, which notifies the users about the expiration date of the PPPoE account. With the above features, the router will prioritize different users in surfer jurisdictions for more efficient management.

    Safety Minded Enterprise Investments

Professional lightning protection technology is designed to prevent electrical surges from penetrating the interior of the device, to be discharged harmlessly into the Earth. This router is designed to prevent lightning damage of up to 4KV in the well-grounded connection conditions. This feature ensures that networking infrastructure investments remain as safe as possible from one of Mother Nature’s more violent elements.

I bound three 60 mbps cable broadband connections and during off-peak times, this 100 mbps router gives me 90 mbps upload and download throughput, which is great. Obviously a 100 mbps router cannot give me the 180 mbps throughput I could have with my three connections. It does hang from time to time and in the two weeks or so I've been using it, I've had to restart it twice. It doesn't have a power button so it needs to be restarted by unplugging it and plugging it back in. Also, it seems to favor WAN1 > WAN2 > WAN3. Even though I've set it to balance between all three, I found the amount of data transferred through each WAN connection in that ratio over a period of time to be in that . Set up wasn't too hard, but could require some googling to set up the load balancing properly because their manual doesn't fully explain all features.

All that said, for the cost, it's definitely worth buying and I don't regret my decision at all.

Just what I needed. I have internet from 2 ISPs - a high speed FTTH and a more common 16 Mbps ADSL (for backup). While my intent was to have something that does the job of failover, I ended up getting best of both worlds.

I now get the combined bandwidth of both ISPs and moreover when one them fails, I still have internet at home without any manual switching of cables and router configurations.
Highly recommended for such use cases!

I purchased this device to combine my Fiber FTTH modem and DSL modem into my LAN network, so that the DSL would work as a fail-over. But the device didnt recognize my FTTH modem, the link to the FTTH WAN comes alive for few seconds and then drops. So was not getting the fiber connection at all. Tried all trouble shooting options including setting different IP address ranges etc. but with no luck. Since it was not working and was not serving my purpose, I initiated a return of product.

I have two ISPs and I am using this as an Internet Failover Switch. The product performance and built quality are excellent. My router is always-on and I have never experienced any problem. This product offers an amazing value for the investment.

The mains cable provided doesn't have the earth/ground plug prong. I strongly recommend you to use a mains cable with a earth/ground plug prong.

This load balancer is just average. I used a PPPoE connection and a DHCP connection as WAN. You can see combined speed SOMETIMES and ONLY IF if you disable "Application Optimized Routing". However if you play games or other single destination P2P application you have to keep "Application Optimized Routing" enabled. In that case you wont really get increased speed. However there is chance that different devices in your LAN might get different connection while using internet. This is how it seems to load balance by assigning a specific ISP to a specific device. However this doesn't happen all the time and you might face speed issues if the same ISP gets assigned to two or more devices. This router does failover correctly even with loadbalance feature switched on. But the ISP switching takes about 10 seconds time and you will face "Packet Loss" during that time. Hence , this router cannot be used for commercial application. Unlike some reviews I didn't face random connection drops and I didnt have to restart the router even once.
One more thing to mention is that when I ordered this router and I received a faulty device , its CPU usage was almost always 100% . I returned it and ordered the same router from a different seller. The replaced router was fine. So if you see your CPU reaching 100% then I suggest you to replace the router.

This is a great little router. It comes preconfigured for 1 WAN port, and 4 LAN ports, but can be easily reconfigured (without rebooting) for upto 4 WAN and 1 LAN.

The configuration menus are simple and easy to understand, with one critical exception. Application specific routing and bandwidth allocation requires a fair amount of planning, and configuration. For example, on a DD-WRT router, you can select Skype from a list of protocols and assign a priority. Here you will have to know which port numbers to select and then assign a WAN port for the traffic to go through that port and so on.

Buy this if you have 2 or more WAN connections and want a simple router to load balance between them. I use this with 3 WAN links and 1 LAN link and it's been running non-stop since the day I received it.

      Highly recommended.

One tip: if you are going to use VPN, make sure you upgrade to the latest firmware before using it in a production environment.

But it is very cumbersome to try to setup remote management.
The other thing to remember is that to set this up you must have a PC or a Mac with an internet port, can't be configured via phone or wirelessly
